E-Z Glider to the Mokes & Super Bowl Sunday Surfing Clinic - Meet at the Kailua Beach Boat Ramp for an 8:00 AM launch and head out to the Mokulua Islands. Surfing not required, but those so inclined will get basic surf instruction and then practice with other experienced kayak surfers. If you are more adventurous, join Rusty on a paddle (weather permitting) out to the NOAA wave buoy (another 2 miles off-shore). Everyone meets back on the Mokes for lunch. If you don't have a good surf boat, contact the leaders in advance about borrowing one. Bring picnic snacks for lunch on the sand beach. No TVs or radios allowed! Directions to launch spot: Turn into the He'eia State Park (NOT the He'eia Kea State Boat Harbor). Just inside the first gate, on the right, is a sign on a telephone pole that says "Company Vehicles Only". Turn right down the unimproved road to the bottom. Be careful where you park, as there are some muddy spots, and we don't want to trash the grass. If parking gets crowded, you can unload your boat, then drive back up the hill and across the drive to the visitor parking, or turn right and park in the main lot under the big tree. |
